Biography

Shore dive Whytecliff park Betty Pratt-Johnson travels throughout the world, under it and over it. She loves to explore — scuba diving, skiing, whitewater kayaking, spelunking, sailing, hang gliding and paragliding — then to write about it. For the record, she was born in Evergreen Park, Illinois, in 1930 and has lived in British Columbia since 1961. Betty graduated with distinction from Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1952.

Betty on boat dive - Orcas Island She learned to scuba dive in Vancouver and was certified #55 by the B.C. Safety Council in 1967; Sport Diver 363 by NAUI in 1973; and Nitrox Diver 76578 by Technical Diving International in 2002.

Cape Breton Artificial Reef In 1976 she became a Contributing Editor for Pacific Diver magazine, later Diver magazine, and wrote for every issue for 6 1/2 years. She has also dived in many parts of the world from the Red Sea to the East China Sea in Okinawa; Greece and Formentera in the Mediterranean; Hawaii, Japan, Indonesia, Fiji and the northern Great Barrier Reef in Australia; Bonaire, Martinique, Jamaica, Mexico, Bermuda, Andros and Eleuthera in the Bahamas; Brazil, Tobago, Colombia, the Galapagos Islands and freshwater lakes in Alberta.

But she is always glad to return home to the Pacific Northwest protected waters of Washington State and British Columbia.
